Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
