Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
