LA Dodgers Hold On in Toronto to Force Winner-Take-All Game 7 in Fall Classic

The World Series is headed to a decisive Game 7 following the Dodgers kept alive their title defense dreams intact Friday night with a three to one win over the Blue Jays in Game 6.

The defending champions halted Toronto’s ninth-inning rally with a dramatic game-ending twin killing, silencing a Rogers Centre audience that had arrived prepared to cheer the team's first title in 32 years.

Game 6 Recap

The Dodgers generated all of their scoring in the third inning. With two outs, Shohei Ohtani was intentionally walked before Will Smith hit a two-bagger to left to score Edman. Freddie Freeman drew a walk to load the bases, and Betts delivered with a two-RBI hit to the opposite field, handing the Dodgers a three-run advantage.

That key hit broke a postseason slump and rekindled the defending champions’ aspirations of becoming the initial back-to-back World Series winners since the New York Yankees captured three consecutive from 1998 through 2000.

Pitching Battle

Kevin Gausman had been dominant to that stage, fanning six of the first seven batters he faced. He fanned 8 through three innings, tying a World Series record, but the third-frame rally proved decisive. The Blue Jays' star finished with eight strikeouts over six innings, yielding three runs on three safeties and two free passes.

Yamamoto, in contrast, was solid again under pressure. The righty outdueled Gausman for the second time in a week, giving up a single run on five hits over six frames with six strikeouts. He boosted his record to 4–1 this playoffs with a 1.56 ERA.

The lone score against him resulted from George Springer two-out single in the third inning, driving in Barger, who had doubled previously in the frame. Springer’s hit offered a momentary lift in his comeback to the lineup after sitting out two games with an side strain.

Bullpen Effort

From there, the Los Angeles relievers carried the load. Rookie Wrobleski got out of a tight spot in the seventh inning, and another rookie Rōki Sasaki pitched into the ninth before plunking Kirk to open the inning. Barger followed with a two-base hit that became wedged under the left-center-field fence, forcing runners to stay at second and third base.

Glasnow, Los Angeles’ third game starter, entered in a relief role and induced a pop fly before Andrés Giménez lined to left field. Enrique Hernández caught the ball and threw to second base to double off the runner, clinching the win and earning Glasnow his first-ever save.

Looking Ahead: Game 7

The best-of-seven now comes down to one game. Scherzer will start for Toronto, making him the sole active hurler to pitch in more than one World Series Game 7s after accomplishing that in 2019 with the Nationals. The 40-year-old inked a single-season contract to chase another championship and has been a outspoken presence throughout this postseason.

The Dodgers, aiming to be the sport's first back-to-back title winners in almost 25 years, are projected to rely on Shohei Ohtani for a brief appearance.
