Both have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following the former manager's departure on the start of the week.

McKenna's Position on The Scottish Club

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy twelfth place in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I have a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Context and Contractual Details

It has been suggested that the manager would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think everyone has to go around and announce what they were, but of course it's a really big football club."

McKenna signed a fresh multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his reported buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Town's coach forever. I know that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Position

Bellamy represented Celtic on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the former Welsh forward is minded to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently in third place in their World Cup group behind leaders Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in November would secure their place in the qualification play-offs, but they are virtually assured of making those, thanks to a successful Nations League campaign, even if they not finish as their group runners-up.

Considering his current position, Bellamy, whose agreement concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the minimum.
