‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Posts Emotional Tribute to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner, who directed her in the hit rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Tragic Discovery

Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles this past weekend.

“How we will long for this man…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being held without bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan continued. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” it read. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
