The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
