The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.
Replay systems will be launched at The Championships this year.
Competitors are granted the option to question certain rulings made by the chair umpire, mirroring the protocol already in operation at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move comes just a season following the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the 147-year tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the umpire to review other situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.
Importantly, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
A recent example took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined the player was responsible for interference, awarding the point to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.
Further Updates
A further innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
